Gatsby Style

Shimmering lights, flowing dresses, and booze galore filled the screen of the long anticipated film, the Great Gatsby, which I was able to view this past weekend. The film was a great adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel of the same name by director Baz Luhrman. But in order to capture the essence of the novel's fantastic nature, Luhrman had to call in the help of a few professionals in other areas besides film. One of these areas was costume design, in which Luhrman's wife, Catherine Martin, took in the vibrancy of the Jazz Age in her wonderful collaboration of costume design with Miuccia Prada. The dynamic duo did a great job giving the historical reference a modern twist with bright colors, sophisticated cuts, and to-die-for silhouettes. Overall, The Great Gatsby was a fantastic film yet the 1920s fashion captured my attention just as much as the star-studded cast.
